The month of December offers another exciting array of birthstones with a warm welcoming selection of colors. They range from the different shades of blues in Turquoise, Lapis, Topaz, and Zircon, to the deep purple Tanzanite and blood red Ruby, and then the earthy tones of leafy green Chrysoprase and midnight black Onyx. Hues to appeal to all December style tastes. We inlay round cut Chrysoprase, Tanzanite, Topaz, and Zircon gemstones only, because of their value and clarity, but the Ruby, Lapis, and Turquoise definitely provide a great color selection especially when you consider the different design possibilities.
Turquoise is one of the most ancient gemstones mined. We have three choices of Turquoise; Sleeping Beauty Turquoise, Blue Turquoise, and Green.
The Sleeping Beauty Turquoise comes from the Sleeping Beauty Mine located in Globe Arizona. It is considered some of the most valuable Turquoise for its baby blue color and consistency and has recently become increasingly rare as the Turquoise extraction part of this mine has closed.
Our blue and green Turquoise comes from Arizona too and is the more typical looking stone featuring darker hues and mineral veins throughout.
2. LAPIS LAZULI
Lapis is another ancient stone that has been mined for 6500 years. A prized gemstone for its royal indigo-blue color, Lapis was not only used for jewelry, it was also carved into decorative objects like bowls and knife handles.
Interesting Fact- When Ruby is crushed it changes from blood red to hot pink! One of our best sellers at Valentines Day for its color and it is known as a symbol of love. Ruby is also the Birthstone for July and the Anniversary Stone for the 15th, 40th, and 80th anniversaries.
